Quick start

End-to-end scenario: from an installed node to a running stream with delivery. It is assumed that Perfect Streamer is already installed (Installation), the service is started and activated, and you are signed in to the web interface (First start and activation, access and roles — Access and roles).

Step 1. Create a stream

  1. Open the “Streams” screen (Streams) and click “+ New stream”.

  2. In the “New stream” window (New stream) leave the type SPTS — a single program — and set the “Stream name” (2–32 characters: Latin letters, digits, hyphen, underscore). The type cannot be changed after creation.

  3. Click “Create” — the stream editor opens (Configure stream).

A new stream is created paused — this is normal: configuration first, start afterwards.

Step 2. Add an input

On the “Inputs” tab of the editor click “Add input”. For typical UDP/multicast reception select the udp type and specify the group address and the port — the Address (multicast group) and Port fields; the field names are as in the interface. If no real source is at hand, use the test generator — an input of type test-stream (Test streams; the software transcoder package must be installed, Transcoders): it produces a test pattern with audio without an external signal.

There may be several inputs — the first one in the list is the primary input, the rest are backups (Source redundancy).

Step 3. Start and verify

New objects are created paused — resume them: with the pause button in the input row on the “Inputs” tab (“Resume input”) and with the stream pause button in its list row or in the editor header (“Resume stream”). The stream then enters the “On air” state.

Verify reception in the stream statistics window (Stream statistics):

  • status and active input — in the window header;

  • the “MPEG-TS checker” section — all indicators must be checked (Validity check);

  • input bitrate and charts;

  • the stream picture is visible in the “Snapshot” section of the statistics window and on the “Mosaic” screen (Mosaic).

Step 4. Deliver the stream

Option A — OTT (HLS). On the “OTT” tab of the stream editor set “HLS service” to OTT / HLS and save. The URL template appears in the statistics window (the “Delivery URLs” section) — copy it and replace the login/password parts with the credentials of a client login created on the “Users / Logins” screen (Users / Logins), after which the URL opens in a player. Delivery modes, DASH, and Low-Latency HLS are described in OTT and DVR.

Option B — transport output. On the “Outputs” tab add an output of the required protocol (UDP, SRT, PS1, RIST, and others — Planning and data transmission protocols), specify the receiver address, and resume the output. There may be several outputs — the stream is then sent to all receivers simultaneously.
