EIT generator

The EIT generator inserts programme-guide tables from the EPG database of the node into an SPTS stream — both the present/following event and the schedule. This makes it possible to build a complete DVB signal for streams whose source carries no EIT: the programme guide is taken from any source of the EPG database (EPG/XMLTV import).

Generation is enabled in the “Generate EIT from EPG” section of the “Stream” tab of the stream editor: select the “EPG source” and the “EPG channel” (Stream modification). If the source carries no SDT, the service description table is generated automatically together with the EIT. The state of the generator is shown in the stream statistics window, in the “EIT generation” section: the number of events, the time of the last update and the errors of the EPG source.

Specifics:

  • Inserting the tables changes the packet composition of the stream: to comply with TR 101 290 at the output, enable CBR mode (Bitrate control).

  • If the source already carries its own EIT, it can be removed with the “Delete EIT” filter and replaced by the generated one (MPEG-TS filtering).

  • When a multiplex is assembled, the EIT of the member programs — including a generated one — is carried over by the multiplexer; the table identifiers are brought in line with the multiplex plan (Table generation).

  • The programme guide inserted by the generator is also used for event-based playback of the DVR archive (Archive playback (VOD)).
